Clarifying Recent Claims About Feather (Official Statement)

We're aware of recent claims circulating about Feather, including those presented in a recent video, which suggest misleading ad behavior and characterize this as fraud.

We're also aware that some third parties have made strong public claims based on these interpretations. We do not agree with those conclusions, and they do not reflect how Feather, or the application itself operates.

To be clear, we categorically reject any suggestion that Feather is engaging in fraud or deliberate wrongdoing.

Before addressing the specific claims, it's important to clarify how ad delivery and measurement function in practice.

We implement ads using the frameworks and APIs provided by our ad partners.

We do not define or influence how ad viewability or billing is measured. This is determined by the ad platforms themselves based on their own standards and systems.

We'll address the main points directly:

Ads running while minimized or closed

The video claims that ads continue refreshing while the launcher is minimized or when the app is closed.

This is not the case. Ads are not run or refreshed when the launcher is minimized or closed.

The behavior shown in the video is being interpreted in a specific way that does not reflect how the system operates in practice.

We've shared a short clip demonstrating how the launcher behaves in these scenarios:

Domains and supporting environments

The video highlights the use of multiple domains and related environments and presents this as malicious.

In practice, this is part of how ad traffic is routed, tested, and optimized across systems, and is standard across the advertising ecosystem. We implement this using established frameworks and APIs provided by our ad partners.

These environments are used to simulate real-world conditions, allowing behavior to be validated across different scenarios and configurations. This includes A/B testing across a limited portion of traffic to ensure systems perform as expected.

This does not impact player experience or indicate malicious behavior. We notify our partners of all domains used and operate within their defined frameworks and policies.

Client development and focus

The video also suggests that Feather has deprioritized client development in favor of ads. This is not accurate.

Recent development has focused on significant internal improvements, including refactoring core systems, improving stability, and preparing the client for future updates. This work is less visible externally but is essential to maintaining and improving the product.

The client remains, and will continue to be, the primary focus.

Claims of changes made after contact

The video suggests that changes were made to the client after these claims surfaced in order to alter or hide behavior.

This is not accurate. No changes were made to the relevant code or ad-related behavior in response to these claims. Changes such as minification or obfuscation referenced in the video were implemented earlier (in January) and are not related to these events.

Evidence showing minified code has been in place since January

More broadly, the claims rely on interpreting technical behavior in a specific way and drawing conclusions about intent that we do not agree with.

Feather remains focused on building a high-quality experience for the Minecraft community. Ads are part of how we support the platform and continue development.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss this directly and provide full context to anyone with questions or concerns.
